Professor Fergus Cameron BMedSci MBBS DipRACOG FRACP MD
Professor Fergus Cameron is the Director of the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes and Director of the Healthy Bones Unit at The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. He is widely published in medical and lay literature regarding endocrine and diabetes management. His particular interests are the impacts of type 1 diabetes upon central nervous system development and psychosocial aspects of care. He is a council member for the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes, has given many invited plenary lectures and is the only southern hemisphere participant in the Hvidoere Study Group on Childhood Diabetes.

Professor Margaret Zacharin
Professor Margaret Zacharin is a paediatric and adult endocrinologist. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and an examiner for the College. She has appointments as a consultant endocrinologist at Peter MacCallum as well as The Royal Children's Hospital and is an adjunct Professor at the University of New England, Armidale.
Her research interests include disorders of growth and puberty, osteoporosis and related conditions in primary bone disorders, chronic disease, hypogonadism, hormone replacement treatment and long term effects of cancer treatment, as well as essential vitamin status in communities. Current projects, with research grants of over $2,000,000, include trials of bisphosphonate use in several primary and secondary bone disorders of children, studies of endocrine problems after head injury in children, establishment of hormonal reference ranges in preterm infants, various studies in Turner syndrome and studies of children with inflammatory bowel disease. She has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has written a number of parent information booklets on bone health and hormone replacement in children with disabilities and long term effects of paediatric cancer, as well as editing multiple booklets on endocrine disorders.
Dr Michele O'Connell MRCPI FRACP MD
Michele completed her Paediatric training in Ireland before moving to Australia in 2005 to train in Paediatric Endocrinology. She has been a consultant in the department since 2009, with her main clinical interests including diabetes mellitus, disorders of sexual development and gender identity issues. She has ongoing research in the areas of diabetes technology and the effects of dysglycaemia on the brain.
Dr Peter Simm MBBS (Hons) MD FRACP
Peter trained in paediatric endocrinology at the RCH from 2005 until 2008. He completed his post fellowship training at Children's Hospital, Westmead, Sydney (2009-10), with a special interest in paediatric bone and mineral disorders. He has appointments at the RCH and Monash Children's, with clinical interests including paediatric bone and mineral disorders, growth and diabetes transition. He provides reports for the clinical densitometry service at the RCH. He is currently involved in a number of research projects exploring bone health issues in young people.
Dr Mary White
Mary completed her general paediatric specialist training in Ireland prior to commencing her formal endocrinology training in Australia. She was awarded the inaugural Aitken Diabetes Fellowship at The Royal Children's Hospital 2011-2014, during which time she completed her MD research degree on 'Transition in type 1 diabetes'. This research focused on the clinical outcomes of young adults with type 1 diabetes following transition from paediatric services and Mary has an ongoing research interest in this area.
Dr Jeff Kao MBChB FRACP DMedSc
Jeff trained in Paediatric Endocrinology at Monash Children’s and Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne from 2012 to 2016. He undertook post-fellowship training at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, Scotland and British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada from 2017 to 2019. Jeff has clinical and academic interests in the quality of care in youth with diabetes and chronic endocrine diseases, the links between childhood obesity and later disease and endocrine aspects of patients with chronic diseases.

Eleanor commenced training in Paediatric Endocrinology in 2021, with time spent at Monash Children's Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital. She is currently in the role of Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Children's Hospital.
Dr Gabby Atlas
Dr Atlas is a Paediatric Endocrinologist at the Royal Children's Hospital, having worked previously at Monash Children's Hospital. She is currently focusing on research regarding Differences of Sex Development within the Reproductive Development group in MCRI as well as an associate investigator in the BANDIT trial through the Diabetes research group.
